CHOCOLATE!!!

Happy Valentine's day!! I decided to make my hubby lots of chocolate junk today! Boy was he happy when he got home lol. I found this cupcake recipe/tutorial and thought it was very cute so wanted to try it.

Check it out here....http://www.thetomkatstudio.com/xoxo-chocolate-cupcakes-14-days-of-sweet-valentine-ideas/

It was pretty easy.....although, mine are not NEARLY as pretty as hers lol. He was still impressed and happy to get them though.

If you decide to make them, here's a couple things I learned. She says in there that making mini cupcakes would be easier and yep, she's right. I made little one's and regular one's, just in case something went wrong with either. I didn't want to make all big one's and have trouble dipping them. Also, When smoothing the frosting after piping it on, do it immediately. I piped it on all the cupcakes and then went back to smooth and it wasn't easy. It had hardened up some and didn't want to smooth out.

The hardest thing about making them was the smoothing out process and you can see by my picture that I didn't succeed and eventually just gave up lol. They don't look much like kisses but they are still REALLY good. Really, really good. I used the recipe for the frosting she shows a link to and he said it's the best frosting he's ever had. It's VERY rich and VERY not so healthy so he won't be getting it very often ;), but yes, it's good for special occasion. I will post the recipe later, but you can get it through that link above. I used a box cake mix and the chocolate for dipping I used milk chocolate discs from a candy making store near me. I use this chocolate for all my candy making. I don't like the baking chocolate from the grocery store or JoAnn fabric. These milk chocolate discs are excellent. You can get them at any candy supply store because I used to get them at the chocolate forest when I lived in Florida. Yummy.

So, here's my picture....not so great but hey, first try and all! I'll try them again in the future and see if I can get them smoother. Remember, I gave up eventually so some of them look like chocolate dipped ice cream cones lol.

First up, a picture before dipping in chocolate, with the frosting piped on a mini cupcake.

Next is a dipped regular size. It's cute how you wrap them in foil and put the little tag in it like a kiss. She has the tags for you to print too.

I also dipped some graham crackers, his favorite, some marshmallows and some strawberries. The kiss you see in the middle is a giant rice krispie made in a funnel. Check out my pinterest board, under fun food for that.

Happy Valentine birthday, Matt!
